Description Map Maker Pro is a low-cost map making and Geographical Information System. Using a variety of tools you can navigate around a map, measure distances and areas, draw polygons, lines and symbols, and display and edit data. It can print maps directly on to any printer or plotter which is fully supported by Windows. Export images for inclusion in documents produced on compatible Windows word processors, such as Microsoft Word, Word Perfect, and Lotus Word Pro. It contains data analysis and customisation tools and can read data from many other programs. It can use scanned images, in colour or black and white, or else you can import vector graphics as DXF files, various ArcInfo files or Atlas GIS BNA files. Annotated maps can be transmitted by e-mail. Features include: Multiple vector and bitmap layers. Support for full colour and 256 grey scale bitmaps. User defined style sets, symbols, and lines. Graphic editing tools including "rubber sheet" distortions so that maps from a variety of sources can be made to fit a common reference system. Annotation with angled and curving text, arrows, scales bars, north points, grids, legends. Zoomed detail maps and location maps. Survey data can be converted directly into maps. Many different map projections, including UTM and National Grids for the UK, South Africa, the former Soviet Union, and US State Planar projections. Three-dimensional digital terrain and data maps. The capacity to produce contours. Animated maps, both vector and bitmap. Large wall maps printed on multiple sheets using any conventional desktop printer. Thematic maps from databases. Point and click database interrogation and editing. Compound queries based on data and geometry giving GIS capabilities. Data inherited by one layer from another. Data represented in histograms, pie charts, 3D surfaces, etc. The potential to display real-time data from monitoring equipment and vehicles. Sampling of continuously varying data and density mapping of randomly distributed data. Scripts define menus, start-up screens, logos, map lists, expert systems, etc. It can calculate surface area, volume, cut and fill volumes. Links to third party programs allow support for GPS and modelling programs. Hypermedia links permit pop-up images, data, text, and other maps for the rapid construction of educational packages.
