Description SPOOKS designs an anchored or free sheet pile wall on the basis of a chosen failure mode (Ultimate Limit State Design). The scope of modes includes those treated in Brinch Hansen's theory. However, within the program the user may perform alternative design by the Free Earth Support principle. It contains a CAD-like graphical user interface. Features include: multi-level bracing, sloping surfaces, additional pressure diagrams and partial surcharge loads. Wall types handled: anchor walls, staggered walls (soldier piles, "Berliner Bauweise", "Kobenhavnervug"), walls with prescribed anchor force, diaphragm walls, secant pile walls, anchor pile walls. All input (external loads and ground properties) may be applied either as characteristic values or as design values. This is managed by the user, with a set of partial safety factors, which are applied to the characteristic values within the program. The magnitude of the partial factors of safety is optional and hence it applies to any Code of Practice or any system of safety coefficients. In order to evaluate the design basis and the design results the user must have a basic understanding of earth pressure calculations.
