| Description | RetWall is a prototype knowledge-based system to aid decision making in the selection of earth retaining structures. The system operates by accepting descriptive (textual) data from the site and passing this information through a rule base to display the pluses and minuses of adopting a particular type of wall on that site. The rule base makes the statements based on the knowledge within it, assembled from expertise acquired from several sources. In general, a retaining wall is adopted in either a cut or a fill situation and it is usual that a particular type of wall will only be applicable in one of these two situations. To this end, the program has been developed in two parts (as two Java applets): Cut situations and Fill situations. Of course, some retaining structures can be used in either situation so it may be worthwhile running both applets. |
