Description R-WALL is a software product for assessment of stability and design of reinforced masonry retaining walls based on a standard analytical approach, which follows AS 4678 - 2002, AS3600 and AS3700 for stability assessment, and design of the concrete base and the masonry. It allows the user to choose from one of four pre-defined retaining wall types, and specify the design parameters. The stability check includes overturning, sliding and load bearing failure of the base. The strength check includes the stem and the concrete base. The design follows the ultimate limit state principle. It takes into consideration the following ultimate limit state modes: Sliding within or at the base of the retaining structure; Rotation of the structure; Rupture of components (cantilever failure); Bearing failure. The software evaluates the earth pressure acting on the wall and multiplies the load by the appropriate load factors. The forces resisting instability are also calculated and reduced by the factor recommended in AS 4678. The design of the reinforcement of the masonry and the concrete base is performed using the factored load. The usage of the software is based on a trial-and-error approach. Initially, the user enters some design parameters, including all dimensions and the reinforcement, and the software will evaluate the stability against overturning and it will check strength of the concrete base and the masonry wall. If either stability or strength criteria are not satisfied the user must change some of the input parameters until all design criteria are satisfied.
