Description | Shaly Sand Advisor (SSA) is a log interpretation tool. Includes a first pass which computes clay volumes and effective porosities. Core data and log data can be utilised to estimate clay volume. A series of crossplots are generated which help determine if the formation should be classified as a shaly sand and show if the formation appears productive and hydrocarbon-bearing. In its second pass, the program can calculate water saturation based upon appropriate models. Net pay and reserves can then be computed from user-specified cutoffs of clay volume, porosity and water saturation. Can be used with a variety of logging suites including old electric logs. Uses Rz, resistivity of the mixed water, for crossplots and calculations when a Rxo device is not available. Can also utilise CEC data when available to compute water saturation by the Waxman-Smits Model. |
