Description CANSAFE is for stress analysis of mines/geotechnical structures using finite element techniques. The package contains two finite element programs: SAP2D32 and EPFE32. SAP2D32 is a 2D static, linear elastic finite element program with the capability of handling non-homogeneous and anisotropic material properties of the rock formations. SAP2D32 is coupled with a slope stability analysis program which is capable of performing rotational shear or plane shear stability analysis for rock slopes. The slope stability assessment is carried out based on the finite element stresses and some additional input parameters such as groundwater levels, tension cracks and shear strengths, on a statistical basis. EPFE32 is a 2D finite element program with the capability of performing non-linear stress analysis using either Drucker-Prager failure criterion or Hoek-Brown empirical failure criterion. The program can simulate homogenous or non-homogenous isotropic materials. Excavation and backfill can also be modelled easily. A graphics pre- and post-processor is integrated to generate the finite element mesh and prepare the input data. It permits interactive graphics display of the analysis results such as colour contours of stresses, displacement field and yield zones. A demonstration version is available on the WWW.
