Description The Geochemist's Workbench is a set of software tools for manipulating chemical reactions, calculating stability diagrams and the equilibrium states of natural waters, tracing reaction processes, and plotting the results of these calculations. It consists of five programs: Rxn; automatically balances chemical reactions, calculates equilibrium constants and equations, solves for the temperatures at which reactions are in equilibrium, and formats reactions in chemical notation for a word processor. Act2; calculates and plots stability diagrams on activity and fugacity axes. It can also project the traces of reaction paths calculated using the React program. Tact; calculates and plots temperature-activity and temperature-fugacity diagrams and projects the traces of reaction paths. React; calculates the species distribution in aqueous solutions and traces reaction paths involving fluids, minerals, and gases. React can account for sorption of species onto mineral surfaces and predict the fractionation of stable isotopes during reaction processes. Gtplot; displays the results of reaction paths traced by React, and prints the plots on black-and-white or color printers. You can copy diagrams to the clipboard and paste them into your documents.
